Museum Registrars must ensure that loaning works of art between museums and exhibitions runs smoothly. They decide whether a work of art is able to be transported or not, depending on its state. They organise the transport of the work of art - from packing it for customs, to the the unavoidable step of insuring it. Museum Registrars are also present when the work is installed in the new premises and attend to its dismantling once the exhibition is over. Registrars also manage the pieces they are responsible for, as well as the mode of packaging. Responsible for managing the permanent collections of the museum in which they work, Museum Registrars must be able locate the works of art - those on display as well as those in reserve.
