Preparatory Year in Design / Bachelor’s Year 1

First year of the Bachelor in Design

The preparatory year in design is the first year of the Bachelor in Design. This general studies year is split in three parts, so that students can declare their area of concentration by the end of the year. It offers a balanced instruction around three core areas: drawing and visual arts; design workshops (graphic, spatial, product and fashion); and general and cultural teachings. The goal is to begin to forge the creative identity of student-designers, while refining their academic plan in the various fields of design and artistic creation. The three different parts – the first, where students can experiment; the second, where they can structure their thoughts; and the final, where they can specialise – make it possible for students to develop their autonomy and refine their creative project. After the preparatory year, students can then continue their studies in one of our institution’s Bachelor’s courses. They can also join a public training course in DNMADE (French national diploma in the profession of Arts and Design), a school of architecture, a school of Fine Arts (École des Beaux-Arts), or a school of Decorative Arts.
