Preventive Conservation Officers provide, after study, material data gathered from observing collections (costing of collections, evaluation of the state of conservation, establishment of a database, inventory). They can track architectural projects (assessment of building condition from a preventive conservation point of view, written suggestions for improvement). They provide technical information on recommended preventive materials and good practices. Preventive Conservation Officers advise and give technical advice for exhibiting, storing and packing objects. In this context, they help plan the movement of collections (transport, loans, moving), as well as climate management (humidity, temperature).
In addition to this, each conservator-restorer can provide preventive conservation advice regarding their own speciality.
