Level Designers imagine and build the player journey, by varying the difficulty and ensuring that the game is diverse. They work under the responsibility of the Game Designer and base their work on the ‘gameplay’ (concept and rules of the game). The goal is to ensure that players have a fun experience, and that they are at the heart of the universe that the game has provided. Level Designers begin by mapping out the settings and integrating a series of elements (characters, bonuses, obstacles, riddles, etc.) that are found throughout the player journey, allowing them to pass from one level to another. Once the levels are drawn on paper, specific software, called ‘map editors’ create the different maps (levels) of the game. They are then integrated into the game to be tested.
